2 Birds and A Wish

I like to use recycled or repurposed materials in my work when possible and these scraps of wood ended up being the perfect fit for these 2 birds and dandelion. They are about 8x8 in size and all are mixed media pieces.

To create these pieces I used vintage music from a 1906 book by Mozart, acrylics, ink, stencils, gelatos, white-out pen, paper, metallic markers, and 2 coats of protective spray. They were so fun to make.

Lady Spade

In the kingdom where the symbolism of the spade is embossed on every building in the village and predominately ornating the castle on the hill, Lady Spade finds herself in love with a suitor from the village. Her mother, the Queen of Spades wishes for her daughter to marry a more polished suitor from another kingdom, one with more cunning, more stature and who knows how to play his cards…or does he? However, to do so each suitor must have a game of wit and finesse to play the winning hand for the secret code of the cards to be revealed… only then will the suitor be chosen. Who will it be the one Lady Spade is in love with or the one who hides behind a mask of deception and greed?

Lady Spade is an 11x14 mixed media piece on smooth bristol paper. I used watercolor, ink, white-out pen, gel pen, acrylic.

Keeping Our Emotional Status In Check

So how do we keep our emotional status in check? We need a release, a release with no judgment and one with unconditional love and forgiveness, for me its art.

My daughter Julia is 28 and living with deaf-autism. Managing her business of disability is a daunting task. The most solid of foundations within a family can be strained by the weight on one’s shoulders each day and the never-ending emotional roller coaster.

Julia’s life journey has brought many emotions to the table, with some not being so pretty. The road has been bumpy, rough, smooth, twisted, and mountainous, with an ocean full of dos and don'ts. My art has been my venue for release and comfort, it holds no verdict. From the beginning to the completion, the energy released through the wedge of a big fat black marker into the canvas flowing with the boldest of words will forever live in the depths of the layers.

'We Are Here', the title for this 30x44 repurposed wrapped canvas. Take notice of how it speaks to you....This was my most emotional and deepest reaching release to date.'We Are Here' represents for me the never-ending need for strength, hope, love, guidance and comfort from my rivers of pain and tears. The symbolism is a reminder of never forgetting what is always near when I need it the most.
